Research Scientist

Position Summary:
This position is in the research group of Assistant Professor Jatinder Josan. The researcher in this position will have discretion and freedom to pursue research goals with limited supervision. This appointee will perform all aspects of research and development in the area of assignment; will plan and conduct research projects requiring independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation or modification of standard techniques and procedures; will devise new approaches to problems, will plan, conduct and coordinate all phases of the work; will perform conventional and complex techniques; and will apply nontraditional approaches and higher levels of problem solving for research. The research focus is on the synthesis and study of designed small organic compounds and polymeric/nano-materials.

Required Qualifications:
-Doctoral degree in chemistry or appropriate related field.
-Knowledge of and skills in organic/polymer/medicinal chemistry.
-Skilled in analytical and other techniques suitable to characterization of the compounds' properties and structure-activity relationships
-Ability to work under limited supervision.
-Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as giving leadership to a research group.
-Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Ability to manage research projects with interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborators.
-Possess a significant publication record.
-Demonstrated creativity, independence and high motivation.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization.
-Experience in the design and synthesis of small organic compounds.
-Experience in the synthesis of natural product compounds and/or polymer for medical applications will be highly desirable
-Experience in technical writing other than research publications.
