Assistant / Associate Professor, Literacy Education

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Division of Literacy Education is seeking a tenure-track assistant/associate professor to join a department that offers doctoral, master, and undergraduate education programs. This appointment includes collaboration across the literacy education programs as well as opportunities to collaborate across other programs within the department and college. Duties include teaching literacy education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; contributing to the program's multicultural/diversity emphasis; advising students at the graduate level including serving on thesis and dissertation committees; providing leadership for division initiatives (curriculum and committee work) as well as for the College and University; and establishing an active research agenda, including publications in scholarly journals, presentations at professional conferences and meetings, and applications for external grant funding.

Education Requirements:

The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate in literacy education or related field by time of appointment. ABDs in Literacy Education or related area with evidence of degree completion by August 2017 will be considered.

Required Qualifications:

At least three years of teaching experience at the elementary (K-6) level; evidence of experience with culturally diverse learners; record of professional and public service to the field; knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy education; and demonstrated potential for scholarship are also required. Qualified candidates for the Associate Professor rank must show evidence of excellent teaching and an established record of scholarship and publications.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in children's literature, early/emergent literacy education, language development, and new literacies. Experience with grant writing is desirable.
