Staff Accountant



STAFF ACCOUNTANT, MIT Federal Credit Union (MITFCU), to assist the Accounting Department with the month end closing process by preparing entries and analyses, posting entries to the general ledger system, and producing monthly general ledger reports and other financial reporting. Responsibilities include posting daily activity and balancing the credit union's primary operating cash account; performing accounts payable functions, e.g., obtaining required approvals, assigning accurate g/l accounts, posting entries, issuing checks, obtaining signatures, mailing, filing, and other related duties; handling fixed assets functions, including set-up, monthly depreciation, disposition and reporting, and ensuring balance integrity with the general ledger; balancing the student loan program on a monthly basis; reconciliation of other assigned general ledger accounts; releasing wire transfers on a daily basis for mortgage origination and providing backup to the Operations Department for wire transfers; reconciling wire activity; monitoring and balancing various suspense accounts in the general ledger; and providing backup to the Accounting Department on various department functions. Will work under the direction of the accounting manager.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a four-year college degree in business or related field; a minimum of three years of related experience in financial services, preferably in accounting or finance; strong accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP; competency working with various general ledger accounting systems; excellent communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to handle various tasks simultaneously; and strong PC and Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel.
