Fashion Merchandising - Assistant or Associate Professor

Old Dominion University's Department of STEM Education and Professional Studies seeks applications for a full-time tenure track assistant or associate professor (10 month appointment with opportunity for summer employment), beginning August 2017. Old Dominion University's fashion merchandising curriculum is specific to the marketing of fashion and includes courses that are designed to prepare graduates to work in any aspect of fashion merchandising. The program has a growing enrollment of over 160 fashion majors. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
A Ph.D. is required of applicants in fashion merchandising or a related area with a strong foundation in fashion merchandising that includes a minimum of 18 graduate content hours to enable the candidate to specialize in this area of teaching and research.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
Required responsibilities include advising students, mentoring master's and doctoral students, contribution to the development of a Master's Degree in Fashion, obtaining external funds to conduct research, producing scholarly publications, presenting research findings, being active in professional associations (including international associations), and contributing to the university's service mission.

Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification

Preferred Qualifications
Teaching expertise in global retail merchandising, global sourcing, merchandise buying and mathematics, cultural aspects of clothing, and product development is desirable. Experience with student internship supervision, work experience in the fashion industry, previous college-level teaching and curriculum development, and interest in developing partnerships with the local fashion industry are desirable. The ability to teach in face-to-face, distance learning (televised and web-based), and blended modes is desirable.
