Dean, McGeorge School of Law

The University of the Pacific seeks an exceptional leader to become the tenth dean of its McGeorge School of Law, as successor to Dean Francis J. Mootz III, who will be rejoining the faculty after five years of exemplary service in helping to transform the law school to meet and redefine its mission in the midst of what has been a most challenging time for law schools.  The successful candidate will be a creative, dynamic and visionary leader who can continue the law school’s upward trajectory―someone who will build on the accomplishments of the past and help the school move to a new level of excellence.

Founded in 1924, University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law is a private, ABA-accredited law school located in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, California. McGeorge is a leader in legal education, committed to preparing students to practice law successfully in the 21st century.  Its Trial Advocacy and International Law programs are regularly ranked among the top programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.  This year the National Jurist magazine ranked McGeorge third in the nation in Government Law, and the Law School Admissions Council selected McGeorge as the First Place winner of the Diversity Matters Award.  McGeorge School of Law is one of 9 Schools/Colleges at the University of the Pacific, including a Graduate Division/School.

The law school offers J.D., LL.M., M.S.L. and J.S.D degrees, and will be offering Masters in Public Policy and Masters in Public Administration degrees this fall. These are the only Public Policy Masters degrees in the nation offered through an ABA-approved law school. Locally, nationally and internationally, generations of leaders are being trained through innovative curriculum and experiential learning programs, and today, more than 13,000 alumni are making a difference in all 50 states and 52 countries around the world.

The law school is situated on a beautiful 13 acre-campus, sharing space with other graduate programs that the University seeks to grow on the Sacramento campus, including an MBA program; a Physician’s Assistant program; a Master in Organizational Learning and Effectiveness; an Ed.D. in Educational and Organizational Effectiveness; and a Master of Science in Analytics, which is scheduled to commence in spring 2017.

The University of the Pacific, founded in 1851 as California’s first chartered university, is one of the West’s most distinctive, student-centered national universities. Pacific is a dynamic, independent, comprehensive university offering undergraduate, first professional and graduate degrees to over 6,250 students in nine schools on three campuses. Over the last five years, the University has made strides in seeking to unify and integrate the three campuses. The undergraduate program and a number of graduate programs are located in Stockton, a diverse city of over 300,000 people, and part of the beautiful central valley of California bordered by 1,000 miles of delta waterways.   The San Francisco campus holds the Dugoni School of Dentistry, along with programs in audiology and data analytics.  The Sacramento campus is 45 minutes from the Stockton campus, and 90 minutes from the San Francisco campus. For additional information, please visit Pacific's website at www.pacific.edu.

McGeorge is a strong law school with many distinctive features―an excellent faculty; innovative teaching; supportive alumni; an exceptional campus; a unique location in California’s capital; and a supportive university.  Pacific seeks a visionary Dean with exceptional leadership credentials to lead the School into the future by raising the national profile; enhancing distinctiveness; promoting career development; building financial resources and helping to develop the Sacramento campus.
