Android Application Developer

Position Summary:
Arlington Innovation Center: Health Research at Virginia Tech in the National Capital Region is conducting research in support of a U.S. Army project in combat casualty care and ongoing health informatics research programs.The successful candidate for this position will support an interdisciplinary team to extend and enhance existing apps (as well as create new apps) that allow for documentation of injuries, guidance of prolonged medical field care, and physiological monitoring of multiple simultaneous casualties. The medic's end user device ( EUD ) communicates using multiple unique wireless and wired communication networks and can operate in standard and voice-activated modes. This position will be based in Falls Church and Arlington, VA. Some teleworking is possible. Travel is required. The developer will be required to travel to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey for 4 weeks in the summer 2016 to support field evaluation of the project (integration with other projects and communication networks, troubleshooting, and de-bugging). Bi-weekly day trips to Aberdeen Proving Grounds or Ft. Detrick in MD may also be needed. Occasional travel to a collaborating site in Cleveland, Ohio, may be needed.

Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in engineering with demonstrated relevant experience or Bachelors degree with significant relevant experience of experience.
Demonstrated experience coding Android apps.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team of designers and developers.
Successful applicant must hold U.S. Citizenship.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to proposed feature requests from project sponsors.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated Android programming experience with one or more of the following:
- USB device interfaces
-4G LTE /Bluetooth/WiFi/ ANT wireless communication protocols
-Efficient power management
-Secure Android operating systems
-Body area networking and wearable technology
Demonstrated experience with US Army communication networks such as SRW
Demonstrated experience with private LTE communications networks
