About the Job

Mobile is growing and Akamai is looking for a top-notch development manager who is enthusiastic about Clojure and the Mobile Web. You will be managing the team that creates mobile delivery software in a fast paced and ambitious environment. This role will be part of the design and development of next-generation software for the purpose of delivering mobile content running on a large network of geographically distributed servers, presenting unique challenges to content delivery. Within Akamai s culture of innovation, you will apply your knowledge of the mobile Web to create unique and powerful solutions to today s mobile content delivery challenges.



About the Team

You will be leading a new, highly skilled development team responsible for the design and development of Akamai s mobile content optimization product running on our global network. The rich technical environment that defines Akamai provides scalable Web servers, distributed caching engines, high-performance Internet routing, security and world class reports to our customers. Beyond the desktop, Akamai technologies are rapidly expanding into the mobile market. Internet features and services previously limited to fixed platforms can now be presented on a wide range of mobile devices, which provide new and exciting mobile Internet experiences for our customers.

Responsibilities:



Responsibilities

* Recruit, mentor, and lead a large team of talented engineers to their full potential.

* Handle day-to-day management tasks such as performance reviews, managing time off, and coordinating with Human Resources.

* Work closely with management to identify risks, solve problems, and maintain progress.

* Communicate clearly and honestly with internal and external stakeholders about progress, roadblocks, and timelines.

* Inspire engineers to work hard, leading by example and keeping enthusiasm high in tight-deadline situations.

* Speak knowledgeably about Clojure and functional programming to candidates, engineers, and managers.

* Foster innovation in the team to develop mobile features that push Akamai s offerings well beyond those of our competitors.

Qualifications:



Basic Qualifications

* Education: Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or similar field.

* Overall Experience: 5+ years of software development experience.

* 2+ years experience managing engineering teams and mission critical software projects with customer-facing deliverables on tight deadlines.

* 5+years experience with the complete software development process.

* Understanding of Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and HTTP.

* Prior experience working with Web (W3C) markup languages and interfaces.

* Prior experience with Clojure and Perl.



Desired Qualifications

* Experience building cross-platform and cross-browser web-based applications including the use of JavaScript.

* Experience harnessing the talents of brilliant developers to produce real-world products using cutting-edge languages

* Experience developing software in either a Lisp or a Functional Language.

* Experience with Perl and Java on Linux/Unix platforms.

* Familiarity with mobile web standards such as XHTML Mobile or WAP.

* Familiarity with several mobile web browsers such as WebKit, Blackberry, Opera, OpenWave, NetFront.

* Familiarity with application frameworks such as Catalyst or Tomcat.

* Strong communication and organizational skills.

* Highly responsible, self-disciplined, motivational, creative, and confident.
