The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, a global leader in producing high quality health professionals to care for diverse and underserved communities, is seeking a Director of Medical Student Affairs for the Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program. Medical students within the Program spend their first two (pre clerkship) years at the David Geffen/UCLA School of Medicine and their final two (clinical) years at the Charles Drew University in urban South Los Angeles and are selected to be successful in both environments. Excellence, innovation, leadership and service to diverse and underserved communities is emphasized in a rigorous educational experience that includes a mandatory urban community based longitudinal clerkship experience and a mandatory medical thesis requirement. The University is the only Medical Institution in the nation that has the dual designation of being a Historically Black Graduate Institution and a Hispanic Serving Health Professions School. The successful candidate will report directly to the Associate Dean for Medical Student Affairs and will manage and support the administrative operations of the Office of Medical Student Affairs. The Director will have primary responsibility for ensuring the efficient and effective operations of the Office of Medical Student Affairs. Major functions and responsibilities of the office will include: providing administrative infrastructure for medical student educational activities, admissions/recruitment, curriculum, advising/counseling, clerkship oversight, directing and implementing educational and operational evaluations and continuous improvement processes, oversight of learning skills support and development, and functioning as the primary educational interface/liaison with he David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have five years related experience with student services in a medical school, grant writing experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organized, solution oriented, and adaptable.
