The University of San Francisco invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences to begin in AY 2011-
2012. The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate rank with tenure in one of the departments of the College of Arts and Sciences and therefore must meet the Universitys criteria for rank and tenure.

students in Arts and Sciences, Business and Professional Studies, Education, Law, and Nursing.
The College of Arts and Sciences offers traditional and interdisciplinary programs across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and fine arts, and also houses a number of interdisciplinary centers such as the Center for the Pacific Rim, Center for Latino Studies in the Americas, the Lane Center for Catholic Studies and Social Thought, and the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good.

The Dean serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the College, and is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of more than 68 academic programs that currently serve approximately 3,100 undergraduate and 700 graduate students. The dean supervises 220 fulltime faculty, approximately 270 part-time faculty, and 122 staff members. In addition, the Dean:
- Ensures the quality of academic programs, faculty, and students; prepares and administers the Colleges annual budget; carries out
strategic planning; recommends appointment, promotion, tenure, and termination of faculty and provides teaching and research
faculty development resources including encouraging, supporting and advocating for excellence in teaching and research; and,
works collaboratively within the context of a unionized environment.
- Provides leadership and vision to the College, works with faculty to create an academic, cultural, and physical environment conducive to scholarship, intellectual vitality, and learning; and establishes and nurtures a supportive diverse work environment.
- Promotes the Vision, Mission and Values of the University through the activities and programs of the College and works with other University administrators to assure the well-being and success of the University of San Francisco.
- Engages in on-going program review and assessment and supports curriculum and program development.
The Dean reports to the Provost/Academic Vice-President and Serves as a member of the Provosts Council and the Presidents
Leadership Team.

student learning, and outstanding teaching, research, and service.

- Experience and commitment to fostering international perspectives in the curriculum and promoting global experiences for
students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to effectively represent the College of Arts and Sciences while working in collaboration with the University community.
- An understanding of managing within a unionized higher education environment.

Strong Preference will be given to qualified candidates with prior administrative experience in the areas of program development and
assessment, program and faculty diversification, and budget planning, at least at the Department chairperson level.
Review of Applications will begin on September 10th, 2010 and will continue until a selection is made. Interviews with pre-finalists are
tentatively scheduled to take place the week of October 4th, 2010 and on-campus interviews with finalists will take place between
November 1st and November 12th , 2010.
