Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in a related field. Laboratory research experience in flow/transport processes in porous media; and experience using computer modeling approaches using C programming and Unix/Linux operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in rock mechanics or rock core flow measurements or X-ray computed tomography.
Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Geosciences. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The position involves experimental and numerical modeling of changes in porosity, permeability and mechanical strength induced by carbon dioxide sequestration at elevated temperatures and pressures. He/she will be involved with all aspects of the research program including project components that are not within the incumbent s immediate area of expertise.
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of rock mechanics, rock core flow measurements, X-ray computed tomography, and numerical analysis of tomographic images.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Laboratory maintenance, including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending scientific conferences and meetings.
Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
