Job Description: Work Hours Between: 7:30am-4:30 pm Mondays - Fridays. The student must be flexible. The student should possess good organizational and time management skills. An eye for detail and paying attention to detail a necessity. Must be able to work efficiently without direct supervision and to do repetitive work without loosing concentration. Must have a positive attitude. Must be a self starter. A willingness to learn new procedures and to take on added responsibilities are also critical. Some technical training will be provided. Must be able to lift boxes containing books. Customer service experience needed. Must be able to lift books, push loaded book trucks and shelve materials at heights of 1"-90". General word processing skills will be helpful. The student will help in a variety of different tasks in support of the Bibliographic Management Department, Access Services, Document Delivery, Interlibrary Loan, Development (The Development Department is responsible for coordinating library public relations activities including special events and programs, as well as overseeing the marketing of library promotions, and publications. This department also serves as a liaison to the Medical Foundation for the development and advancement of the library including donor relations and the Friends of Laupus Library.)

Specific Duties: Daily shelve books in strict National Library of Medicine order. Sort books and arrange book trucks in strict National Library of Medicine order. Retrieve, return and reshelf Reserve request. Photocopy requests. File forms of all sorts. Check out books, retrieve holds from hold shelf. Answer basic questions regarding library holdings and library policy. Keep appropriate statistics and status reports. Assist with large mailings. Answer phones and help with basic questions about the library. Search for and retrieve books and other library materials. Assist in processing video recordings, audio-cassette tapes; take inventory of any audiovisuals including anatomical models. Assist with the maintenance of any audiovisuals, including but not limited to anatomical models. Take statistics on all materials used in the library. (Books, Journals, Audiovisuals) Assist with the pick up of gifts on and off campus. Assist with packing and unpacking of gifts. Assist with Integrated Library System clean-up and book processing. Search for call numbers and edit records as needed. Assist with mail as needed. Assist with processing of incoming materials. Assist with special projects as assigned. Construct special boxes for delicate History of Medicine books. Assist with the processing of document delivery requests. Pull requested books, journals, and audiovisuals. Prepare materials for distribution. Reshelf library materials. Assist with the processing of interlibrary loan request to lend. Uses a variety of computer systems to process requests including Horizon. ILLiad, Docline, and OCLC. Photocopy or scan materials. Provide back up support as required for interlibrary loan services. Experience in the use of office equipment, especially photocopiers and fax machines.
Minimum Qualifications: Must Be Dependable. Must be able to pay attention to detail. Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, reach up high over your head, lift up 25 pounds, and push book trucks fully loaded with books or journals. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes during the course of work. Duties Assigned will generally be of a routine nature. Will have to be willing to re-shelve Library material. No Experience Necessary.
