Director, Grants and Research Development


Function:
Research grant opportunities and develop grant proposals. This person will establish multiyear priorities for grants research and development. The position requires researching for competitive grants from the federal and state agencies, and seeking grants with private foundations and grant awarding bodies. The person will work with all employees to establish research teams, including training faculty and developing interest in grant opportunities. This position will require facilitating dialogue about grants throughout the college. Grant procedures will also need developing, and this position will act as a clearing house for all grant submissions. Maintaining grant records is required. This person will also be required to work with the Foundation team to develop budgets, and perform other duties as assigned by the Office Institutional Advancement and the Foundation.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Comply with all grants reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Provide stewardship to current grantors, working to provide regular written updates (newsletters etc) to corporate, private and foundation donors.
  • Possess understanding of institutional history and programs.
  • Build relationships with potential grantors and foundation officers and other prospects.
  • Arrange onsite tours for supporters (foundation officers, foundation trustees).
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc).
  • Work with college employees to provide development input for all written institutional materials (including Annual Report, President's report, etc.).
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated leadership.
  • Minimum of three years experience with grant writing.
  • Previous experience with nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to develop and monitor income goals.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Higher degree or certifications preferred.
