This is a Temporary Full time 10 month position with Benefits for the Fall 2010- Spring 2011 academic year.
Anticipated start date of this position is August 2010.
General Summary:
This position is under the auspices of the CCAC Deans of Student Development. It is a one year learning opportunity as part of a fellowship program to support the College's diversity initiative. Minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be a Full-time Temporary Employee for one academic calendar year (Fall/Spring or Spring/Fall semester) in the Counseling department and will be assigned a full time load (15 credits or equivalent).
In addition to counseling, a Counselor Fellow will undertake additional professional assignments as assigned to tenure track employees, such as attending department/college meetings and participating on committees. The Counselor Fellow will complete and submit a program evaluation at the conclusion of each semester.
The Counselor Fellow will be under the direct supervision of a Mentor who will be a Counselor. The Counselor Fellow will be given the opportunity to grow and to develop his/her skills in an effort to support the College's diversity initiative.
Job Specifications:
Master's degree in counseling and two (2) years related experience required. College experience in counseling is preferred.
Applicants for counseling assignments are expected to have strong communication skills. Applicants are expected to have post-secondary counseling experiences; work experiences in the counseling field; and knowledge of industry-related software and systems, including industry certifications, where appropriate. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.
Job Duties:
1. Provide individual and/or group counseling on issues related to personal, transfer, and academic concerns.
2. May provide academic advisement as stipulated in the AFT contract.
3. Provide crisis intervention counseling and follow-up.
4. Coordinate Placement Testing and other Academic diagnostic and standardized tests.
5. Interpret placement tests, career inventories and psychometric tests.
6. Assist with the development and implementation of early intervention and retention programs.
7. Identify and recommend appropriate services designed to address student needs.
8. Assist with the acquisition and updating of materials in the Counseling Center.
9. Participate in staff development activities.
10. Assist with preadmissions interviews, as needed.
11. Prepare and submit reports, as requested.
12. Provide input in the preparation of the operating and capital budgets.
13. Assist with the development of special programs that reflect the diversity of the student population.
14. Participate in New Student Orientation.
15. Provide information to students regarding the transfer process.
16. Serve on campus and/or college committee.
17. Perform other related duties as assigned.
