Position Announcement

General Description:

This position holds a three year term appointment in the Collection Management & Special Services Department and provides collection management services to university students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Other duties include participation in the development and delivery of library instruction and active liaison work with selected academic departments. As bibliographer and liaison, this position is responsible for collection management, promotion of library services, and specialized instruction related to programs in those academic departments. May serve at the reference desk and participate in library and university committees.

Specific Duties:

1. Serves as bibliographer and liaison to selected academic departments; promotes the use of library services and resources among the students and faculty in selected academic disciplines.

2. Provides library instruction to students and faculty through group instruction or research consultation.

3. Participates in departmental and library management through service on various task-focused committees.

4. May staff the reference desk, which provides both general reference and documents and maps reference, approximately 2-3 hours a week.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Head, Collection Management and Special Services Department.

Qualifications:

Required: ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent; demonstrated experience with electronic resources; demonstrated commitment to providing quality library services and resources to students and faculty; and demonstrated strong written, oral communications, and teaching skills. Pre-employment background checks are required.

Preferred: Collection management experience in an academic library.

Salary/Rank:

Salary and rank commensurate with credentials and experience. Applicants with an ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent degree will be considered for the rank of Instructor. Applicants with a second graduate degree in addition to the ALA accredited MLS or international equivalent degree will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Rod Library:

Rod Library has a collection of 986,920 bound volumes, 820,900 microforms, 568,000 documents, 41,450 maps, 23,360 sound and video recordings, 2,035 active print periodical subscriptions, and 1,225 electronic periodical subscriptions. Faculty and staff of 54 assisted by 90 students.
