Coordinator for Hispanic Leadership Development Office for Diversity Initiatives and Intercultural Relations
GAINESVILLE STATE COLLEGE
The Coordinator for Hispanic Leadership Development reports directly to the Director of the Office for Diversity Initiatives and Intercultural Relations. It is the responsibility of the coordinator to develop and implement programs to acclimate Hispanic/Latino students into the educational and cultural environment at Gainesville State College. The focus of this position is on assisting students in gaining the skills necessary to serve as leaders through personal and professional development. The coordinator must be able to communicate (oral and written) in both English and Spanish. The position does require occasional evening and weekend work. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as coordinator/advisor for the Hispanic Legacy Scholars Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Write annual report
o Develop a WebCT component for dissemination of information including program requirements, educational resources, scholarship information, and opportunities for community service
o Advise recipients through completion of degree/transfer requirements
o Oversee budget
Complete administration and coordination of the Goizueta Leadership Program (ends July 2011)
Advise the Latino Student Association (LSA)
Chair Hispanic Heritage Month
Plan the annual Weeks of Welcome Multicultural Event
Plan and coordinate the ODIIR Annual New Student Welcome each August
Plan and organize the fall and spring Social Justice and Diversity Workshop
Collaborate with the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, as needed, to provide translation for Spanish-speaking students and parents during new student orientation
Serve as an on-campus resource for Hispanic students in the area of financial aid (scholarships)
Collaborate with the Admissions office, Financial Aid, and the Registrar s office to serve as the liaison for Gainesville State College to support students through the admission, financial aid, and registration process to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college
Serve as a team player and supporter of collaborative efforts
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master s degree required, preferably in higher education or student affairs
Proficiency in English and Spanish language (oral and written)
Ability to write reports and other business correspondence
Ability to work independently and with a team
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including database management
Ability to use the Internet and Microsoft Outlook
Detail oriented and the ability to multi-task
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds, especially those populations that have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education
Experience in a college or university setting preferred
ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $31,200 - $39,500 annual rate. Salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined by relevant skills, education and experience.
