DIRECTOR OF FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE - Office of the Dean of Student Affairs

As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, assumes primary responsibility for a system involving approximately 850 students in 18 chapters (nine fraternities, three sororities, one co-ed independent fraternity, and five active Multicultural Greek Organizations). The office aims to empower the students, faculty, and staff in the creation and appreciation of the model student centered, self governing fraternity and sorority experience espousing our core values of scholarship, leadership, service, and friendship.

The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life assumes primary responsibility for a system involving approximately 850 students in 18 chapters (nine fraternities, three sororities, one co-ed independent fraternity, and five active Multicultural Greek Organizations). The Director will provide supervision of and accountability for the chapters in areas of compliance with university, national IFC, Panhellenic, Pan-Hellenic and campus Inter-Greek Council policy, compliance with state anti-hazing statutes and other applicable regulations, including city licensure and other requirements. The Director is a senior member of the Dean of Students staff, and will work with other senior staff to shape the activities of the fraternities and sororities to be part of the educational mission of the university. The Director will develop and mentor responsible leadership among the students involved in the fraternities and sororities, and will work with these leaders to re-establish the values around which the chapters were formed, including philanthropy, community participation, academic excellence and leadership.

Basic Requirements:

  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Experience planning campus-wide events and advising and supervising students; excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills; understanding of and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and college student development; experience working with multicultural communities; experience working with multiple constituencies within a university environment; demonstrated leadership, advisory, organization, and management skills; knowledge of current issues in higher education law and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications: A Masters degree in higher education or related field is preferred. Web design skills are also preferred.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: This position is a senior staff professional in the Dean of Student Affairs division with responsibility for overseeing Tufts Universitys fraternities and sororities. The Director will work with colleagues, with student leaders, with city officials, with chapter national offices and directly with chapter membership to re-establish at the university the values around which the chapters were formed. Citizenship and visibility in the community are key, as is developing pride and responsible leadership in the fraternity and sorority system. The Director will serve on the Dean of Student Affairs After Hours On Call system, filling rotations as assigned. It is expected that the Director will familiarize him/ her self with a broad cross-section of Greek membership, including significant visibility at possible evening and weekend events and chapter meetings.
