North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, one of 16 constituent universities in the University of North Carolina, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The University is a public Land-Grant and Carnegie-classified High Research Activity institution committed to fulfilling its fundamental purposes through exemplary undergraduate and graduate instruction, scholarly and creative research, and effective public service.
The College of Arts and Sciences has 13 academic departments and is the largest academic unit within the University, offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Enrollment in the College includes over 2,700 undergraduates and 200 graduate students. Approximately 400 tenured and tenure-track faculty are engaged in collaborative quality instruction and learning, research, scholarship, and creative programs and activities in the arts and
sciences.
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College of Arts and Sciences, reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean is expected to provide visionary leadership and strategic management to foster excellence in the operations, productivity, and continued improvement of the College of Arts and Sciences. Leadership and management responsibilities include the following: the administration of instructional and research programs; grantsmanship and fundraising; budgetary management; faculty, chair, and staff development; departmental and college-wide assessment of educational programs; maintaining high academic standards for the community of scholars in the College; and administrative oversight of a broad range
of related activities in the arts and sciences.
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate with a record of quality teaching, scholarly productivity, and service that provides support for an appointment at the senior faculty level. The candidate must also present evidence of progressive administrative accomplishments and a proven record of leadership, team building,
management, budget planning and control, and resource development. The candidate must exhibit a keen strategic vision, a commitment to institutional excellence, and the ability to effectively and creatively implement strategic and academic plans. He or she must be an engaging professional who is trustworthy, courageous, and sincere, with strong moral character.
