The College of Staten Island seeks applications for the position of Assistant Vice President Institutional Advancement & External Affairs
GENERAL DUTIES: As a key member of the executive management team, the Assistant Vice President oversees one or more College functions to fulfill comprehensive program goals and contributes to overall College strategic objectives. He/she plans and implements a range of successful programs; and oversees staff, budget, operations, and facilities.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The College of Staten Island (CSI) is one of 11 senior colleges of The City University of New York, and, the only public college on Staten Island. CSI offers 77 undergraduate programs, 22 graduate and, through the CUNY Graduate Center, 30 challenging doctoral programs. The College enrolls approximately 13,000 students and employs nearly 2,000 faculty and staff. Located on a 204-acre park-like campus that is minutes away from the cultural treasures of Manhattan, the CSI campus is the largest collegiate site in NYC. Fourteen neo-Georgian-style buildings house 300 classrooms, laboratories, instructional spaces, and study lounges, as well as department, faculty, and program offices. CSI boasts an advanced, networked infrastructure and is developing a high performance computational center that will support technology-based research, teaching, and learning throughout CUNY. The College is planning for enrollment growth and for the construction of new residential facilities during the coming five-year period.

Position Overview
The Assistant Vice President, Institutional Advancement and External Affairs (AVP) will report to the Vice President, Institutional Advancement and External Affairs (VP) and will be responsible for aspects of Development, as determined, and, as Development relates to External Affairs activity. He/she will serve as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the division. The AVP will work with senior administration and with other members of the College as well as external communities.
The AVP will work closely with the Vice President on ongoing departmental planning. She/he will be responsible for supervision of fundraising staff and other members of the Advancement team, and, with the Vice President, for planning and directly soliciting major gift support for the College and working with consultants as needed. She/he will supervise Advancement professionals and support staff to provide a strategic and cohesive methodology for growing the College's development programs. The AVP will work closely with the Vice President and CSI voluntary Foundation Board to identify funds for the College.
Essential Functions
- Ability to serve as COO for the Division.
- With the Vice President, strategically evaluates potential funding prospects, and initiates and stewards major gift requests on behalf of the College and Foundation; will work on the supervision of development strategies, while working in concert with the Division of Institutional Advancement staff.
- Works with key college partners, including all levels of administration, faculty, staff, and volunteers to expand all major gift fundraising efforts.
- Works with the Vice President and other members of the administration and campus community on strategic and defined major gift opportunities.
- Works closely with the Vice President on capital campaign and major gift efforts, including planned giving and all development activity; and works with the Director of Development on strategies relating to all levels of gifts to the College.
- Performs other duties as applicable to the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Masters or advanced degree preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of Institutional Advancement /Development or equivalent related experience, with a preference in higher education.
- Ability to work with the Vice President to effectively plan, steward, and solicit gifts to the College and work with a variety of individuals, both internal and external of the College.
- Ability to manage departmental finances and day-to-day operations.
- Ability to manage professional and clerical staff
- Ability to travel periodically as needed.
COMPENSATION: Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
