Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Bioengineering or Biomedical disciplines. Three years full time experience in a related research discipline of which one year must be Postdoctoral experience and must also include demonstrated expertise in laboratory studies of musculoskeletal injury and repair, experience with mechanical modeling and lab management. Experience in grant/protocol/compliance/manuscript submission. Knowledge of regulatory requirements in federal, state and/or industry funded research.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and grant submissions.
Brief Description of Duties: The Research Scientist will develop collaborative (principal) and independent (secondary) translational, applied and basic science, to enhance and expand research initiatives in the Department of Orthopaedics.
- Secure external (federal, state, industry, foundation) funding to support collaborative and independent research activities.
- Oversee and directly run a range of orthopaedic related research projects, including collaborative work with faculty, residents, and pre-doctoral students.
- Prepare manuscripts independently, and in collaboration with residents and other faculty, for submission to peer-reviewed biomedical journals.
- Work with faculty and residents, as well as other University resources and sponsoring agencies to identify potential sources of support.
- Build collaborations with other clinical and basic science departments, as well as other hospitals (e.g., coordination of clinical trials) and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
- Prepare and submit Investigational New Drug/Investigational Device Exemption (IND/IDE) applications to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for investigator initiated studies.
- Coordinate and assist in the preparation of progress reports for federally funded awards as needed.
- Contribute to the basic science education of residents (e.g., bone cell biology and biomechanics).
- Assist with preparation of text for inclusion in annual Departmental Research Journal.
Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
