Event Information Coordinator

Responsibilities:
The Event Information Coordinator is responsible for promoting and enhancing the positive image of George Mason University by communicating information about participation and engagement of the public and Mason community members in campus events. Maintaining the university's event calendar system (Today@Mason); coordinating the Summer Campus Web site and listing; coordinating University Information's historical tour program; assembling and delivering the weekly campus announcements (E-Files); coordinating the use of social media and new technologies, plus new projects or program initiatives that enhance the visibility of George Mason University, the division or the department is essential. The Event Information Coordinator will use databases or Web software to assist in information delivery, assist with identifying communication or public relations opportunities and challenges in the coordination of major campus events, and serve as a back-up for office coverage and the operation and posting of event ads to the marquee or other electronic signage. We are seeking candidates who can ensure accurate and timely information about the university and event information collected at least six months out and dispensed to all persons while providing the highest level of customer service.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in event coordination, public relations, communications, college student personnel, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Ability to learn, use and maintain effectively Web development and desktop publishing software, university databases, social media tools and electronic media programs;
- Detail-oriented, reliable and a committed team player with excellent computer skills;
- Proven experience developing networks and partnerships through positive interpersonal skills;
- One to three years of experience in a customer service environment;
- High-level of professionalism and a strong customer service philosophy;
- Solid presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to outreach, network and build rapport and relationships with faculty, staff, students, visitors, administrators, and academic and administrative departments;
- Work well in a fast-paced environment, possess initiative and have high attention to detail to successfully implement policies and procedures;
- Successful experience working with a diverse clientele;
- Planning and prioritizing projects to meet deadlines, and make informed judgments with minimal direction from supervisor;
- Ability to understand and integrate policies and procedures;
- Research, write and edit for publications, public documents and presentations; and
- Represent Mason in a professional and collaborative manner, as well as projecting and promoting the department in a competent and friendly style.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of electronic data file management, PC and data entry experience;
- Experience in a university setting is highly preferred; and
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, university databases, Web development software and desktop publishing.
