Staff Therapist, Options Program

The staff therapist provides a wide range of mental health and wellness services to the student population at Syracuse University. As part of the Options Program, a unit within the Counseling Center, this position provides a range of alcohol and drug related services to a diverse graduate and undergraduate student population. This position's primary responsibility is the provision of individual and group therapy with an emphasis on substance abuse interventions. This position will also assist in the development and implementation of outreach programs designed to reach the broad student population in order to reduce the incidence of students abusing alcohol and other drugs.

Provide individual substance abuse assessments and counseling. Design and conduct individual treatment plans for students with AOD abuse issues. Develop and provide substance use harm reduction education groups for identified students. Refer appropriate students to outside treatment resources and facilitate the treatment process as appropriate. Design and coordinate AOD education and prevention programs throughout the campus community. Coordinate and monitor substance abuse program assessment and evaluation. Consult with faculty and professional staff in identification and intervention of students in substance use-related crisis. Participate as an active part of the Division of Student Affairs team as deemed appropriate. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Qualifications: Ph.D, Psy.D, or Master's in clinical or counseling psychology, LCSW, or degree in related mental health field. Experience working with college aged population preferred but not required. Experience providing services to culturally diverse client population required. Experience working within a harm reduction model. Licensed or licensed eligible in state of New York. CASAC preferred, but not required.
