DIRECTOR OF ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Job Description: J.Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University seeks an experienced, energetic, team oriented professional for the Director of Organizational Development. The library is a large, complex organization with multiple divisions and departments, and hundreds of employees, including faculty, staff, temporary personnel, and undergraduate/graduate student assistants. This position facilitates transformations in the organizational culture of Joyner Library to be more dynamic and adaptive to change in technology, operations, and services while continuing to value the traditions of university research library collections. The Director of Organizational Development is vital to enhancing student educational experiences in the library and services that support faculty teaching and research. Responsibilities include: Promotes a positive organizational culture that values collaborative and personal achievement.
Facilitates the recruitment and retention of diverse and talented faculty librarians and staff. Designs, administers, and assesses a comprehensive organizational development program to promote leadership development and expand deep technical and soft people/cultural competencies for outstanding library service. Advises librarian faculty and staff supervisors on performance management and serves as the library's administrator for interpretation of university and state employment policies and regulations. Mediates supervisor-employee conflicts in the library and facilitates a successful resolution to performance issues. Contributes to a safe work environment and promotes employee health and wellness programs. Provides career counseling for librarian faculty and other staff. Serves on the Dean's Council, library and university committees, and task forces. Represents the library in personnel recruitment and organizational development initiatives at job fairs, conferences, and other venues. This EPA non-faculty position reports to the Assistant Director for Administrative Services and directly supervises the Library Personnel Administrator, Payroll & Student Hiring Manager, and several student employees in Administrative Services.

Academic Library Services is a branch of Academic Affairs and reports through the Office of the Provost. Encompassing Joyner Library, and the Music Library, Academic Library Services serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff, and visitors by offering library resources and services to support the research, instruction, and service goals of the University.
Minimum Qualifications: Significant knowledge of organizational development issues and trends from work experience in libraries, higher education, cultural resources, nonprofits or business. Experience with analyzing and improving group dynamics, communication, and performance. Knowledge of productive teambuilding, leadership development, and supervisory proficiencies gained from developing or participating in programs addressing these areas of organizational effectiveness. Experience recruiting and retaining high performance support staff and professionals. Knowledge of tools and resources for writing position descriptions, establishing employee classifications, and conducting compensation reviews. Commitment to fostering a diverse workplace. Adaptability to respond to changing opportunities and priorities. Ability to work well in teams and independently. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Experience with current office technology such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Master's degree in organizational development, organizational behavior, organizational studies or another behavioral science discipline such as organizational psychology, social work, sociology, communication, or cultural anthropology from an appropriately accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience in an academic library. Experience teaching continuing education programs for professional development. Knowledge of university human resources, faculty employment, and personnel policies and procedures. Experience with employee career counseling, conflict resolution, and performance management systems. A master's degree in Library Science is beneficial, but not required.
