2010 Fall/ 2011 Spring Graduate Assistant HMGT

Job Description: The Department of Hospitality Management is seeking three (3) graduate assistants (20 hours per week) for Fall 2010, Spring 2011 and possibly Summer 2011 terms. Job responsibilities will include tasks focusing on research; retrieving journal articles, collecting and organizing data, writing and assisting the faculty administratively. Some time may also be allotted to classroom/ lab assistance.

The work location will primarily be on the East Carolina University campus but may extend to other departmental events off campus. One position will have half (1/2) of their time (10 hours) focused on assisting the associate editor of a journal with tasks related to paper submission and review (for this position a Masters student planning to pursue an academic career is preferred.) All positions will be assigned to work with various HMGT faculty members; the time, twenty hours per week will be allocated among HMGT faculty


Minimum Qualifications: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of this position include data entry into spread sheets and SPSS statistical software. Running statistical analyses and keeping accurate and confidential files of data sheets and analyses both in hard copy and electronic. Preparation of tables and graphs in SPSS and Power Point as directed.
? Student will meet for regularly scheduled meeting with mentor to assess progress and communicate changes as needed. Student must attend Mandatory GA Orientation at the beginning of the first semester. All Graduate Assistants are expected to dress appropriately and be punctual.
Qualifications:
1. Education and/or Experience: Graduate Student Standing in a unit major at East Carolina University.
2. Language Skills: Good understanding of English
3. Mathematical Skills: Good understanding of basic statistical principles.
4. Reasoning Ability: Must be able to work independently, accurately and in a timely manner.
5. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: IRB training required must sign confidentiality agreement. CHE graduate assistant orientation is required.
6. Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Word, Power Point and SPSS
