Job Description: Department of Pediatrics of the Brody school of Medicine, East Carolina University is seeking a full-time board eligible/board certified pediatric intensivists to join three full-time and one part-time pediatric intensivists in staffing a12-bed multidisciplinary PICU and help augment a rapidly expanding pediatric sedation service, currently staffed by one full time pediatric critical-care physician. Pediatric, pediatric-medicine and emergency medicine residents participate in learning and in patient care in the PICU and on the sedation service on a rotating basis. Four PICU-trained acute-care pediatric nurse practitioners (with current recruitment for a fifth practitioner) help staff the PICU and provide pediatric sedation. Annual PICU admissions are 700-800 and are rising; the sedation service provides sedation to > 800 out-patients and in-patients per year. An interest in teaching, clinical and/or basic science research is desirable.
The PICU is an integral part of a rapidly growing Children's Hospital, which is part of a level 1 trauma center. A new Children's Hospital Expansion Program is underway which will include the development of a day surgery, day medical and sedation center, as well as a new pediatric hematology-oncology unit. Construction of a new pediatric emergency department is also planned.

The PICU both supports and is supported by a broad range of sub-specialty medical and surgical services, including but not limited to pediatric surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric neurosurgery and pediatric anesthesia.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Pitt County Memorial Hospital. PCMH is the flagship hospital for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.


Minimum Qualifications: MD or DO degree required with board eligibility or certification in Pediatric Critical Care. Board eligibility or certification in (Pediatric) Anesthesia is desirable. Board certification may be required in accordance with the ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan.
