MILLS COLLEGE

PRESIDENT

The Board of Trustees of Mills College, a private, liberal arts college for women, with graduate programs for women and men, located in Oakland, California, has announced the search for its 13th President. The board invites nominations and written expressions of interest for this exciting senior leadership opportunity to head a proud and ambitious institution, renowned for its long-standing dedication to women s education, for the academic excellence of its programs, for its distinguished faculty and their numerous academic achievements, for the quality and increasing selectivity of students, and for the accomplishments and commitment of their dedicated alumnae/i.

Mills next President will take the helm of an institution that has experienced an impressive record in the last 20 years that includes, but is not limited to, significant programmatic innovation, an increase in philanthropic giving, $100 million in capital investment, and a dramatic increase in the diversity of faculty, students, and staff.

Ranked by Forbes as among the top 10 all-women s colleges, Mills currently enrolls 926 undergraduate and 584 graduate students, who are taught by 93 full-time faculty and 88 highly committed part-time faculty in classes with a student-faculty ratio of 12:1. The College is home to 15 academic departments and nine programs, organized under the rubric of four academic divisions (Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Letters, and Fine Arts), in addition to the School of Education and the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business. Among Mills most distinctive programs are its 4+1 BA/MA programs in public policy, business, education, infant mental health, mathematics, and interdisciplinary computer science. These innovative programs were designed to enable Mills undergraduates to earn a master s degree with one extra year of study, after completing their bachelor s. Additional new undergraduate majors include environmental studies, public policy, biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as intermedia arts. A doctoral program in educational leadership was initiated in 2000. The average GPA of entering students is 3.7; SAT scores range from 1570 1870. Degrees conferred include the BA, BS, MA, MFA, MBA, MPP, and an EdD. Since 2005, applications have increased by 145% with a concomitant increase in student selectivity.

The Mills College Board of Trustees seeks for its next President an individual with an appreciation for the special role and value of women s colleges, a passion for the liberal arts, a strong record of successful academic leadership, financial acumen and the ability to develop and implement a sustainable economic model, experience with planning and executing a philanthropic campaign, and an academic record commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor. Individuals considered will be expected, as well, to have a record of academic entrepreneurship and innovation, and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, to diversity, and to the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

Individuals nominated who are amenable to being considered, or those who wish to submit an application, should submit a CV electronically (Microsoft Word files preferred), as well as any supporting materials they deem relevant. Insofar as the search will be conducted as a wholly confidential search, until a new President is named, private email addresses and telephone contact information should be included in any submission.
