Washington State University (WSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director/Professor of the School of Economic Sciences. The Director is responsible for leadership and management of the School of Economic Sciences which was formed from the merger of the Department of Economics and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in 2004. The School has 30 full-time faculty members, 7 support staff and more than 80 graduate students, including more than 60 PhD students. The Director has a commitment to the diversity and breadth of teaching, research and extension programs and will mentor and teach graduate students in the School. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences.
Required qualifications for the position include:
Earned PhD in Economics or Agricultural Economics or a related field
An academic record and work experience sufficient to achieve tenure at the rank of professor
Preferred qualifications include:
Effective leadership and management skills, including strategic planning and implementation
Ability to effectively represent and support the School s interests
Effective interpersonal skills, including consensus building and promoting teamwork
Understanding of curriculum and course development at both the graduate and undergraduate level
A commitment to promoting diversity
A commitment to the mission of a land-grant university
A capacity for balancing the diverse opportunities and responsibilities of the School and its faculty, including allocating resources equitably to these diverse opportunities and responsibilities
Evidence of successful financial management including budgeting and the generation and allocation of resources
Successful record of extramural funding and fund raising
Ability to work and communicate with diverse groups, including both internal and external stakeholders
