K-12 Science Specialist

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) (www.uamont.edu/jobs) is seeking applicants for a K-12 Science Specialist.

Responsibilities: The K-12 Science Specialist shall assist selected Arkansas public school personnel in the following areas:

The K-12 Science Specialist shall share responsibilities with Science Specialists in other STEM service Centers to meet the goals and state standards established by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) through implementation of a statewide professional development network; participate in all professional development and meetings required by ADE; share responsibilities with Science Specialist in other STEM Centers to meet the goals and state standards established by the ADE through the Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Planning (ACSIP) process; conduct independent research and maintain, summarize, and provide records and research data as required by the ADE; maintain a timely calendar, monthly report, and technical assistance report of SSOS K-12 Science Specialist activities; provide services to Arkansas school districts for improving science instruction, on-site technical assistance, models of best practices, observation and coaching of science facilitators and/or teachers, support of school districts curriculum development and alignment, assessment analysis and alignment, technology integration, professional development and leadership; maintain a current knowledge of research and effective practices in the area of standards-based science curricula, instruction, and assessment; work with other educational specialists, organizations, agencies, and institutions of higher education to support the goals and priorities of the ADE; develop a working knowledge of technology and media to enhance the delivery of instruction in science; develop a comprehensive understanding of test data analysis regarding all statewide tests (statewide criterion-referenced tests and norm-referenced tests) required of all students in Arkansas public schools; and perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Three years of recent teaching experience; baccalaureates degree (master s degree preferred); valid Arkansas teaching license; a teaching philosophy that supports the Arkansas Science Curriculum Framework; knowledge of current research and effective practices in research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment; experience in adult learning situations, team problem-solving and professional development;
