Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks a full time Sexual Assault Services coordinator to join the faculty of University Student Health Services (USHS) in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services. The Sexual Assault Services Coordinator will work with a small energetic team of health professionals at the Wellness Resource Center, a subset of the VCU University Student Health Services. The Wellness Resource Center provides outreach and education to guide VCU students toward a healthy college lifestyle (www.thewell.vcu.edu).
The role of the Sexual Assault Services Coordinator is to develop and implement sexual assault/relationship violence education and prevention programs and provide advocacy services. The Coordinator is responsible for the following job duties: coordinating campus and community services for students who are victims of sexual assault, relationship violence, and/ or stalking; collaborating with key stakeholders and represent VCU on local task forces and community groups as necessary, serving as a Faculty Advisor to student organizations and managing volunteer student staff, interns and peer educators; planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based health promotion strategies in the areas of sexual assault and domestic violence for the VCU student body; coordinating programming and awareness events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Healthy Relationship Week; providing training for Campus Judicial Board, Residence Hall Staff, Campus Police and other groups as requested. The Coordinator must also promote a healthy work environment through cooperation with and respect for staff.
Qualifications
The required qualifications for this position are: Master s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Public Health or related field; experience working or volunteering in the area of sexual assault, relationship violence or stalking prevention or services; experience as an advocate for victims of sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking; ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on our campus; demonstrated skills in gathering and synthesizing information to develop health promotion initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of students; demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, trainings, small group facilitation and individual sessions; strong written/oral/interpersonal communication skills; proficient in a variety of computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheet and PowerPoint); must be willing to conduct periodic evening/weekend programs and events; demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social justice and cultural competence and the ability to work in a multicultural environment; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time and prioritize tasks.
The preferred qualifications for this position are: post-graduate Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention; experience working in a college/university setting; quantitative and qualitative research skills (e.g. research design, conducting focus groups, data analysis, etc); experience collaborating with sexual assault and/or domestic violence community organizations; supervisory skills; budget skills; grant writing skills.
