Physician-Scientist Faculty Appointments

Department of Medicine
Section of Rheumatology
Temple University School of Medicine

This is an exciting period of growth at Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM). Our new Medical Education and Research building is leading-edge all the way, helping us to continue our excellence in teaching, service, and research on a larger scale than ever. Eleven stories of advanced technology house our expanding team of 453 full-time, 67 part-time, and 1,164 volunteer faculty, as well as 869 staff. Each year, we admit 180 medical students and approximately 24 graduate students. The result is a legacy of MD graduates who are highly regarded by competitive residency training programs and who have made significant career contributions to both medical practice and medical research. Many have become department chairpersons, deans, and vice presidents of major academic medical centers.

We are pleased to announce two tenure-track faculty positions for physician-scientists in the Section of Rheumatology at the Temple University School of Medicine. With the recruitment of Dr. Cohen as Section Chief and the opening of our state-of-the-art Medical Education and Research Building in October 2009, the Section is expanding its clinical service, clinical research, and basic science efforts.

The research focus of the Section is systemic autoimmunity. We are part of the newly chartered interdisciplinary Temple Autoimmunity Center, which includes scientists from the Rheumatology Section. Seven Principal Investigators with an interest in mechanisms of autoimmunity have contiguous modern open laboratory space in the Medical Education and Research Building. There is ample opportunity for intellectual interchange and collaboration within this group. The current positions emphasize laboratory-based research with opportunities for translational applications.

Candidates will be expected to pursue and develop an externally funded academic program and interact collaboratively with basic, translational, and clinical investigators in the Section of Rheumatology and the Temple Autoimmunity Center.

Attractive start-up packages and space in our new research building will be available to the candidates. Candidates should be board-eligible or board-certified in Rheumatology. Appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is anticipated.

For immediate consideration, please forward a current CV and letter of interest addressed to: Philip L. Cohen, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Chief, Section of Rheumatology, Temple University School of Medicine, 3322 Broad Street - Room 205, Philadelphia, PA 19140, E-mail: philco@temple.edu, Fax: 215-707-3508.

The University is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Temple University School of Medicine is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities.
