DIRECTOR, AEGD DENTAL RESIDENCY (FACULTY)

Job Description: The Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program will be responsible for oversight of the program as well as clinical and didactic instruction for the AEGD Program at the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine.

AEGD residents will receive their training at one of the eight Community Service Learning Centers located in underserved, primarily rural areas of North Carolina or in the Advanced Care Clinic in School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, NC. The Director will be responsible for program design- including didactic and clinical curriculum development and coordination of training in the program. The Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department of General Dentistry and works closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, the Assistant Dean Extramural Clinical Practices, the faculty directors of the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) and other administrators.

Specific duties include:

Improving the curriculum for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, including didactic, clinical components, and an educational plan for each resident.

Preparing appropriate Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) documentation including self-study documents and site visits.

Preparing and submitting grants to secure additional funding for this program.

Developing recruitment strategies, admission standards, and resident selection processes.

Hiring and supervising full and part-time faculty for the program.

Working with and coordinating didactic and clinical activities with the ECU General Practice Residency program.

Providing clinical teaching and clinical care in ambulatory settings.

Providing didactic teaching and seminars for the program.

Coordination of residency training at all nine sites, including the eight Community Service Learning Centers.

Preparing performance evaluations for residents and staff, financial reports, accreditation reports, and other reports as necessary.

Scheduling periodic visits to the Community Service Learning Centers to provide clinical teaching, patient care, and evaluate resident experiences first-hand.

Working closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Chair of General Dentistry, and the Assistant Dean Extramural Clinical Practices to ensure successful operation of the residency program.

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

This position is located in Greenville, NC.

Fixed term or tenure track position available at the title/rank of assistant professor of higher.


Minimum Qualifications: DDS or DMD from a Dental School accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

Certificate from a CODA-accredited General Practice Residency in Dentistry Program, Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program or Armed Forces Comprehensive Dentistry Residency Program.

Experience teaching in an accredited AEGD/ GPR program or a U.S. Armed Forces equivalent program.

Ability to be licensed in the State of North Carolina
