Associate Dean of Students

The Associate Dean of Students will provide leadership with University initiatives and support services that enhance the student experience and promote the personal development and academic success of the students at the University of Delaware. The  Associate Dean of Students will direct the administrative activities associated with the Dean of Students Office to support students, including the Class Absence & Academic Withdrawal process and the Transfer and Graduate School Certification. The Associate Dean of Students will engage members of the university in complex problem solving and advise faculty, staff, students and parents on sensitive and private issues. The Associate Dean of Students will participate with the efforts of the Student Behavioral Consultation Team to determine appropriate response to high risk behaviors. He/She will partner with various Student Life units to envision and facilitate programs and services that integrate and enhance the student experience at the University. The Associate Dean of Students will provide leadership with coordinating University-wide events including Parent and Family Weekend, First Year Experience, and Welcome to UD Days for first year students; serve as liaison to the M.A. in Counseling in Higher Education program for Student Life; and chair the Student Life Development and Recognition Committee. The Associate Dean of Students reports directly to the Dean of Students/Associate Vice President for Student Life.

A Masters degree in higher education, student personnel, or counseling services and five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs required. A record of accomplishment as a student advocate and a champion for student success. Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills, ability to interface with internal and external constituents with diplomacy and tack and to build positive and effective relationships with colleagues and student leaders across the university. Skill to manage crises. Effective leadership, team building and collaboration skills. Outstanding problem solving skills. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources. Ability to take initiative for projects and development of services. Independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail. Knowledge of student development theory and student support programs and services.
