The Center for Sustainable Enterprise (CSE) at Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill has a mission of research, outreach, and education to advance the understanding and practice of business strategies that meet the triple bottom line: social equity, environmental integrity, and financial profitability. The program is fully engaged in educational and outreach activities related to sustainable enterprise including: sustainable entrepreneurship, environmental and social performance, and emerging markets. The Center also works with executives and future business leaders to understand how social and environmental considerations are changing the competitive landscape of business. The Center supports an MBA Concentration in Sustainable Enterprise, an award-winning sustainability consulting program, and numerous research initiatives, events, and outreach programs that support the application of sustainability in business.
The position Associate Director for Business Engagement is a .75 time (30 hours/week) position that reports to the managing director of the Center. S/he is responsible for building business relationships to support the Center s strategic priorities for programs and courses including: CSE Corporate Partners Board, CSE Consulting, Sustainability Immersion, Sustainability Learning Lab and STAR. The Associate Director for Business Engagement is responsible for all aspects of the CSE Consulting program including: managing and reporting on business development, operations, finance, and administration for the summer internship program. The Associate Director for Business Engagement is responsible for sourcing and scoping sustainability projects in support of the following programs: Sustainability Immersion, Sustainability Learning Lab, and STAR program. The Associate Director role includes: career coaching for Kenan-Flagler students as it relates to organizations and industries that the Center is engagement with, and representing the Center at business-related conferences and speaking events. This position is contingent upon funding and the Associate Director is responsible for securing the funding to support the Center s business engagement work.
Education Requirements:
A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree in a related field is required.
Qualification & Experience Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience working with faculty, students, and other aspects of university administration or similar experience in a corporate environment. Knowledge and experience with enterprises working with economic, environmental, and social issues locally, nationally, and internationally. Extensive experience in business development and relationship management for consulting projects and expertise in the issues and trends of corporate sustainability. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to work with relative autonomy in an entrepreneurial environment. Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities, organize, and manage multiple planning tasks independently. Excellent public speaker with strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact effectively and build relationships with a range of constituents including: MBA students, alumni, business leaders, donors, faculty, and staff at all levels. An ability to adapt in a changing environment and to operate in an entrepreneurial environment. Positive attitude and creative thinker and problem-solver that has a desire to learn and challenge others. Understanding of academic environment and deep commitment to higher education. Strong work ethic in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment. Strong preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience in sustainable enterprise.
