Tenure Track Mechanical Engineering Faculty

MAJOR DUTIES: The U. S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, CT invites applications for a tenure-track academic faculty position in the Mechanical Engineering program beginning around August 1, 2010. The position will be filled at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level according to the needs of the program. The Professor level will be considered in exceptional cases. Applicants should be committed to outstanding undergraduate teaching leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Successful candidates may also supervise senior capstone design projects and independent research projects in mechanical or aeronautical engineering typically aligned with United States Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security mission areas.
QUALIFICATIONS: Tenure-track candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Undergraduate teaching experience is desired, however, professional experience of candidates will also be considered. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills and will be selected based on their ability to teach fundamental engineering courses as well as their ability to contribute to upper-level courses and project work related to the design, construction, manufacturing, instrumentation, and testing of mechanical, marine, or aeronautical systems for use by the U.S. Coast Guard or the Department of Homeland Security. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
