ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

INTERNATIONAL CENTER

Reporting directly to the Director of International Center, the Assistant Director performs duties in institutional immigration compliance and educational outreach to support the mission of the office, division and college.  Areas of responsibility include initiating recruitment and retention programs as well as providing services that promote intercultural exchange, knowledge, and understanding within and between the U.S. domestic and international communities. Additional responsibilities involve advising international students and scholars in matters related to immigration (including but not limited to policy/procedures/regulations/etc.) and issues of personal and social adjustment.

 

Bachelor's degree required.  A Master's degree in higher education administration, college student services administration or related field preferred.  Three years of experience in development of international student services related programs in higher education. Experience in program development and educational outreach initiatives. Demonstrated knowledge of F-1 and J-1 regulations including SEVIS reporting requirements and knowledge of Department of Homeland Security regulations. Strong oral and written communication skills, including cross-cultural communication competencies, and the ability to advise and problem-solve around international student issues and concerns. Proven commitment to diverse perspectives, internationalization of institutional environments, and a quality work ethic. Preferred independent work style although responsive to supervision and able to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner. Proficiency in a second language or experience living in another culture is desired, and U.S. citizenship and a current driver’s license and background check are required. Position will require travel and some evenings and weekends.  NAFSA affiliation and experience working, living or studying abroad preferred. Language skills a plus.
