JOB SUMMARY:
Provides instruction, support services, outreach, and other professional contributions to the mission and goals of the College.
JOB DUTIES:
- Designs and delivers effective instruction as assigned through traditional, online, and hybrid formats, using approved course outlines and procedures.
- Advises students and holds regular posted office hours.
- In collaboration with departmental colleagues, designs/selects and implements appropriate assessment of student learning at the course and program level.
- Assists department chair in developing class schedules and department budget.
In collaboration with department chair, selects and orders all course textbooks and disseminates supplemental materials in a timely fashion. - Submits contract, grades, and other required paperwork within prescribed timelines.
- Assists department chair in orienting and mentoring new full-time and adjunct faculty, as needed.
- Actively contributes to the College’s governance by serving on committees, task forces, or through special assignments as approved by the Vice President of Instruction.
- Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings, as scheduled.
- Recommends equipment and software needs to Executive Division Dean.
- Maintains communications with area high schools, community agencies, advisory committees, and other external constituencies, as appropriate.
- Works with Student Services to develop enrollment targets, recruitment and retention strategies, and student life activities.
- Collaborates with academic administration in conducting program reviews and other institutional activities intended to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Effectively integrates the use of instructional technology in instruction.
- Remains current in the discipline taught as well as in current trends in teaching methodologies.
- Participates in graduation exercises.
- Contributes positively to collegial decision-making and climate within the College’s academic community.
- Maintains the highest ethical standards in relationships with all constituencies, research activities, and all business dealings with and on behalf of the College.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Dean, each faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in his/her position. May supervise paraprofessional and/or student employees.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of Master’s degree in English, Composition or Rhetoric.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience required.
- Successful candidate will teach 15 contact hours per week which may include both transitional studies and college-level classes.
- Community college teaching experience preferred.

Commitment to the value of diversity and the free and open exchange of ideas; technically competent particularly in the area of instructional technology, online instruction, and technology based assessment practices such as e-portfolios; knowledgeable and committed to the mission and purposes of community colleges.
