Director of Housing

The University of Oregon (UO) is a comprehensive research university, serving over 20,000 students engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Housing provides leadership and direction for the programs and services that comprise and enhance the UO residential experience, students academic and personal success, and the mission of the University. University Housing is an educational and service enterprise, housing 3,800 students in residence halls and 375 students in family housing. The department functions as a self-supporting auxiliary with an annual operating budget of $38 million. The Director oversees a staff of 300 full/part-time employees, 600 student employees, and has five direct reports. University Housing maintains approximately 1.5 million square feet of living/dining space on 80 acres of land. The department is comprised of residence hall and family student housing, dining services, campus-wide retail food and catering services, budget operations, facilities management, contract administration, camp and conference housing, and related support services. The Director must have a sense of vision, strong leadership and problem-solving skills, the ability to engage in strategic planning and program development, excellent interpersonal skills, an active commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to work collaboratively with numerous campus departments and other stakeholder groups. The new Director will assume leadership for the completion of a comprehensive $500 million, 20-year plan to modernize existing residential facilities and complete construction of several new halls.

Candidates must possess a master s degree and have at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in housing and residence life. Key required qualifications include recent leadership in housing or residence life; demonstrated ability to manage programs, services, and complex issues relevant to a large comprehensive housing program; an understanding of student development and the challenges facing today s college students; knowledge of and experience with construction planning and facilities maintenance; excellent supervisory and personnel management skills; experience with fiscal management, budget preparation, resource allocation, and revenue generation; the ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, and to foster inclusivity and cultural competency among students and staff; demonstrated success cultivating relationships with students, professional colleagues, and external constituents; and the talent to incorporate best practices into the organizational culture.
