Job Description: The Department of Health Education and Promotion's 37 faculty members offer online MA and MAEd degrees in Health Education, an MS degree in Environmental Health, and BS degrees in Athletic Training, Environmental Health, School Health Education, and Health Education and Promotion. The latter degree has concentrations in Worksite Health Promotion, Community Health Education, and Prehealth Professions. The Department is highly regarded for application of online instructional technology. The Department is planning to transition to a BS degree program in Public Health and preliminary discussions are occurring regarding possible development of a PhD program. The College of Health and Human Performance is home to 100 faculty, the departments of Health Education and Promotion, Exercise and Sports Science, Recreation and Leisure Studies; and the Human Performance Laboratory and the ROTC program. There are excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research both within the College and across the University.
The Chair of the Department is the administrator of the Department and provides leadership, support, and guidance to the total functioning of the Department. The Chair of Health Education and Promotion is the academic leader of the Department and engages in research/scholarly activity, teaching, and professional service. As the Department administrator, the Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Performance. The preferred start date is August, 2011. Professional service to the university, community and profession are expected.
Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Health Education, Public Health or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; demonstrated administrative effectiveness; demonstrated record of scholarship and teaching effectiveness commensurate with tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and appointment to the University Graduate Faculty; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty members, administrators and students; and commitment to cultural, ethnic and racial diversity of both faculty and students.
