This is responsible instructional work to facilitate student comprehension and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able and responsible members of society. This position exists to provide educational services to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening. Instructor may be required to teach courses within his/her concentration area on campus, off-campus, online courses and possible videoconferencing depending on need of location.
Jacksonville State University is a school of approximately 10,000 students is located in northeast Alabama and is in close proximity to National forests and State and National parks. The Department of Biology seeks a broadly trained systematic botanist for a tenure track position. The successful candidate will also serve as the herbarium curator. Applicants are expected to pursue research that includes field and collections-based studies that support the herbarium. This may include molecular approaches to systematics.
Responsibilities include: instruction in introductory biology, participation in the biology core (refer to Biology Department web site), and instruction in one or more advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in the applicant's area of specialty; student advising; service; and scholarly activity. Participation in research involving undergraduate and graduate (MS) students required. Grant writing for research and/or teaching is expected. The Department occupies well-equipped facilities in the McGee and Martin Hall (where the herbarium is located).
In the event that this tenure-track position is not filled as tenure-track, applicants may be considered for a temporary or visiting position for one year.

Ph.D. in Botany, Plant Biology, Natural Resources, Plant Ecology or Biology required.
