Florida Atlantic University invites applications for the following positions: Associate Dean of Student Affairs for the Broward Campuses (991423), Director of the Student Union (991725), and Director of the Student Counseling Center (992227). Detailed descriptions for each position are below.
Florida Atlantic University is a public research university with multiple campuses along the southeast Florida coast serving a uniquely diverse community of 27,700 students. The largest campus is located in Boca Raton. The Broward Campuses, the second largest, has sites (Davie, Fort Lauderdale and SeaTech at Dania Beach) located in the greater Fort Lauderdale area with a combined enrollment of 6,500 students.
Associate Dean of Student Affairs
Position # 991423
The Associate Dean of Student Affairs serves as the Senior Student Affairs Officer for the Broward campuses and reports to the Vice President and Associate Provost of Regional Campuses and the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs. The Associate Dean serves on the Broward Campuses and the Sr. Vice President for Student Affairs Executive Committees. The position is responsible for assuring that Broward Student Affairs activities complement the mission of Florida Atlantic University and supports the academic mission of all students at FAU. The position works closely with the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students for the Boca Raton Campus and the Associate Dean for the Northern Campuses in interpreting and enforcing University policies and procedures. The Associate Dean is the fiscal manager for the Broward Student Affairs budget and is responsible for assuring that all fiscal policy and procedures are adhered to by the Broward Student Affairs staff. The Associate Dean is responsible for requesting the annual budget appropriated to Broward Student Affairs by the Vice President and Associate Provost of Regional Campuses and for dispersing the budget to the individual departments of Broward Student Affairs. Other duties include personnel supervision, program development, fiscal management, and staff professional development.
Minimum qualifications: Masters degree in higher education/student affairs, student personnel, leadership or related discipline with at least 10 years of experience as a Director or Assistant Dean; preference is a doctorate with at least 8 years of progressive experience as a Director or Assistant Dean.
Director, Student Union
Position # 991725
The Director of the Student Union oversees the entire student union operation and its personnel; establishes the overall standards of performance through selection of administrative personnel, budgetary controls, and overall thrust and direction of programs and services. He/she serves as the primary communication link between the union and other campus departments and the community. The Director is responsible for staff supervision, facility management, fiscal management and accountability, event planning, student programming, assessment/evaluation, and business management; works directly with the union's advisory board and coordinates all staff and student effort to realize the union's educational and service objectives; oversees a $1.6 million budget in addition to a multi-million dollar facility (105,000 sq.ft); and also oversees the university auditorium.
The Director is expected to be an entrepreneur in developing programs and services that generate revenue. The Director must demonstrate expertise in management skills, including assessment, setting priorities, planning, training, evaluation, communication, and collaboration; have knowledge of college union philosophy, student development theory and an understanding of how to meet the cultural, social, and recreational needs of the campus community. The Director must also have an understanding of how the union functions within the institutional setting and of institutional business and management practices. They must have the ability to set standards for human resource management and for fiscal responsibility and accountability; and must have the ability to recognize and foster high ethical standards of performance, service, and professionalism among staff.
Minimum qualifications include: Master's degree in business management, higher education/student affairs, student personnel, business administration or general education and ten years of progressively responsible positions in a university setting; or a bachelor's degree in business management, higher education/student affairs, student personnel, business administration or general education and twelve years of progressively responsible positions in a university setting. Financial management in a university setting preferred. Current experience in a university union/student center/university center setting strongly preferred.
Director, University Student Counseling Center

The Director for the Student Counseling Center is an excellent position for a visionary leader who is committed and dedicated to providing exemplary counseling services for a diverse student body. The Counseling Center is located on four campuses (Boca Raton, Broward, MacArthur, Port St. Lucie), in a rapidly growing University. Provide leadership, management, evaluation, training, hiring, budgeting, planning, policy development, and supervision of staff for all Florida Atlantic University Counseling Service operations. Provide education and training opportunities and clinical supervision for students in accredited psychology, counseling and social work graduate programs. Provide an organized staff development program for professional staff and qualified students at advanced levels of doctorial study, to include weekly in-service training opportunities. Determine personnel requirements for the Counseling Centers. Prepare the Counseling Center for Accreditation by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). Serve as a permanent member of the University’s Exceptional Circumstance Withdrawal Committee, Student Intervention Committee and the Student Crisis Awareness Committee.
Minimum qualifications: This position requires a doctorate from an APA Program in Clinical, Counseling, or Educational Psychology with an APA approved internship plus eight years of experience in a college/university counseling center, and a Florida License to practice psychology or be eligible for the license. Preference will be given to candidates who have served at the Assistant and Associate Director’s level.
