TEACHING INSTRUCTOR

Job Description: Full-time position to begin March 2010, in the Department of Engineering. The Department offers a BS in Engineering with concentrations in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. There are currently 13 faculty and over 300 engineering majors. The primary focus of all engineering faculty positions is to teach and provide service in the Engineering program. Fixed term faculty focus on teaching and service. In addition to teaching and service, active involvement in outreach to industry is required. Candidates must also be committed to innovation and creativity in engineering education methods and approaches. Applicants in a wide range of engineering disciplines will be considered but those with professional and/or teaching experience in electrical and mechanical related areas are especially sought. Teaching assignments will focus on core courses such as graphics, statics, dynamics, computer applications and similar courses. There will also be a commitment to advising and retention duties.

Minimum Qualifications: Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Candidates are required to have a terminal or master's degree from an ABET accredited engineering program in a discipline related to engineering department teaching or program related areas. Preferred experiences include background in engineering education and knowledge of continuous improvement processes and ABET accreditation requirements. Industry experience and registration as a Professional Engineer are also desired along with background or interest in outreach activities involving industry, community colleges, and K-12 programs. Experience in obtaining external funding and grant preparation is also helpful.
