Assistant/Associate Professor, Education

Governors State University seeks applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Elementary Education for Fall, 2010.

Governors State University is the only public university in Chicago's south suburban area, serving approximately 7,750 students. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate social studies methods courses in the B.A. in the Elementary Education Program, which is accredited by NCATE and ACEI. The program leads to Illinois State Certification in Elementary Education. Other duties of the successful candidate will include: teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in curriculum and/or instruction; participating in program accreditation processes and performing appropriate research and professional, university and community service. In addition to having professional knowledge and expertise in the area of social studies and elementary education, the successful candidate must have a willingness to teach in off-campus settings and to become involved in distance learning/online course development. Candidate must be willing to assume program leadership duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Possesses an earned doctorate or ABD in the field of education (Doctorate in social studies/history education is preferred, but a master's degree in social studies/history will be considered if the doctorate is in another area of education.)

-Has a minimum of three years of elementary, middle school, or high school teaching in accredited U.S. public or private schools.

-Meet the Illinois State Board of Education criteria for social studies specialist

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who meet the standard for Illinois State Board of Education Criteria for Social Studies endorsement.
