POSITION: SPEECH/COMMUNICATION FACULTY, Assistant Professor (10-10-0076)
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2010
JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching upper and lower-level communication courses, assisting in the development of a cross-disciplinary mass communications program and in the production of student-run convergent media projects. Additional responsibilities include participation in the general education/assessment program; ongoing curriculum planning and review; professional/instructional development; participation in University and departmental committees; student advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; and other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a terminal degree in a communications discipline such as mass communications, media studies, journalism, speech, or related field (ABD considered if degree will be completed during first year of employment); plus two years of college-level teaching experience. Candidates with significant knowledge of program development in mass communications or experience advising student media are preferred. Desired qualifications include a commitment to excellence in teaching; well-developed teamwork and communication skills; and experience with on-line courses and other distance learning methods. Background must be appropriate for rank of Assistant Professor. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
