Brief Description of Duties:
- Assist the DON to facilitate the CQI and Education processes for the Department. Actively participates in CQI and Education Program as necessary.
- Work closely with Nurse Managers to respond to Labor Relations issues for the Department of Nursing.
- Work collaborately with Inservice and colleagues to assure that staffs' training and inservices are current and reflect industry standards.
- Responsible for the coordination of communication between nursing administrative staff, units and shifts, facilitates effective communications between the nursing department and other departments and professionals relevant to residents care issues.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with state and federal regulation.
- Coordinates and reviews the evaluation process of all departmental employees.
- In collaboration with professional peers (on all shifts) assist the DON in determining the standards of nursing practice and establish resident care protocols.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in the ongoing development and maintenance of the philosophy, goals and long-range plan of the Nursing Department.
- Assess the quality of resident care and determines staffing, equipment, supplies, and makes adjustments necessary to meet the needs of the residents.
- In the absence of the Director of Nursing, will maintain adequate levels of nursing staffing, in conformance with budgetary and patient care requirements, through monitoring of departmental scheduling and recruitment of new staff as assigned.
- In absence of the Director of Nurses, is administratively responsible for the Nursing Department.
- Collaborates with peers in the School of Nursing, and participates in, the education of the undergraduate and graduate nursing student.
Required Qualifications: BSN, Masters degree in Nursing or in a related health care field. RN license in NYS. Eight years post licensure experience to include three years of nursing management experience in a hospital or nursing home. Experience in education and/or quality assurance. Preferred Qualifications: Computer competency, experience in budget preparation, Nursing Home Management experience and/or certification in gerontology or equivalent course work.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. All LISVH positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. Appointment to these positions requires passing a pre-employment physical examination.
