Human Resources Director
The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Human Resources. The successful candidate for this position will lead the human resources enterprise for a premier Big 10 university with an enrollment of 42,000 students and a national and international reputation for educational excellence and cutting-edge research. UW-Madison has approximately 15,000 employees, including more than 2,100 faculty, 7,000 academic staff, 5,200 classified staff, plus 5,000 graduate assistants and 7,000 student employees.
Principal duties:
Chief responsibilities of the Director of Human Resources include the following:
• Provide leadership, policy direction and management oversight for all human resource services for UW-Madison faculty and staff.
• Provide advice and counsel to senior campus leadership in connection with UW-Madison's commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and staff, and promoting a climate of civility, respect, multicultural inclusion and social justice.
• Take a lead role in envisioning, developing and administering programs to help realize the goals of the campus-wide Strategic Framework.
• Collaborate with shared governance bodies, University of Wisconsin System Administration and other UW campuses on a variety of services and projects.
• Take on a variety of special projects and activities including committee participation as an adviser or chair.
Relevant experience, skills and personal qualities:
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a relevant discipline.
• A minimum of eight years of experience in leading and managing complex human resources organizations and activities.
• A creative thinker and innovator with the ability to build consensus and collaborate with others.
• Ability to advocate for important issues using clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge and expertise in contemporary human resources management, including talent management, compensation, benefits, and human resource information systems.
• Demonstrated achievement of multicultural goals, including recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and staff.
• Knowledge and expertise in labor-management relations.
• Demonstrated skills as a team builder and problem solver for work groups.
