Assistant Professor-Philosophy

The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure track position in Philosophy at the Assistant rank to begin August, 2010. Responsibilities include teaching philosophy courses in the core curriculum as well as courses for the Philosophy major and minor, scholarship, and service to the department, college and university. Teaching load includes 9 credit hours per semester on a nine-month appointment with the possibility of supplemental summer appointments in teaching.

Required: Ph.D. in Philosophy. Area of Specialization: Medieval Philosophy; Area of Competence: one or more of the following: Metaphysics, Islamic philosophy, ancient philosophy. Record of or potential for successful teaching and research.

Desired Qualifications: Experience working with diverse student populations, collegiality, willingness to contribute to a small, dynamic department that has a high profile on campus, support for the university's mission.
