EMERSON COLLEGE
Bringing Innovation to Communication and the Arts

PRESIDENT

Emerson College, the only comprehensive college or university in America dedicated exclusively to communication and the arts in a liberal arts context, invites nominations, expressions of interest and applications for the position of President.

Located in the heart of Boston's downtown theater district, Emerson is internationally recognized for excellence in its fields of specialization: communication; marketing; communication sciences and disorders; journalism; the performing arts; the visual and media arts; and writing, literature and publishing. The College was established in 1880 as a school of oratory, and was located for many years in Boston's Back Bay until it made a spectacularly successful move to its current campus in the 1990s.

A faculty of scholars and practitioners, state-of-the-art equipment, and access to professional production and performance facilities like Emerson's new Paramount Center provide the College's 3,200 full-time undergraduate students and 900 full- and part-time graduate students with unique skills and experiences. The liberal arts curriculum within each of the College's programs promotes civic engagement, fosters respect for human diversity, and inspires students to create and communicate with clarity, integrity and conviction.

Under the distinguished leadership of retiring President Jacqueline
Liebergott, Emerson has enjoyed a trajectory of dynamic growth and increasing visibility, which has placed the College at the leading edge in preparing students for careers in communication and the arts. The institution's current strategic plan will enhance Emerson?s standing even further. Its initiatives include: a transformational expansion of the College's presence in Los Angeles; new academic programs and increased faculty collaboration; increased residential and community space for students; fostering diversity on campus; growth in non-tuition revenue; improved communications and facility infrastructures; and the cultivation of a leading role for Emerson in the Boston arts and communications landscape.

The next president will be an innovative, accomplished leader committed to excellence in teaching, learning and scholarship. The ideal candidate will be an articulate champion for the distinctive mission and goals of Emerson College, with the ability to energize the full range of the University's constituents and the public at large. S/he will be a collaborative community builder, a successful fundraiser, a gifted communicator, and a catalyst for the long-term growth and development of the institution. Knowledge of one or more areas within the communications, entertainment and arts industries is desirable.

The anticipated start date for the position is July 2011. For best
consideration, please send all nominations and applications electronically no later than March 31, 2010 to:
