Dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, founded in 1866, enrolls about 8,000 students and is pursuing an aggressive growth agenda. UWP is a primarily undergraduate institution with 40 majors, including institutional emphasis areas in engineering, agriculture, criminal justice, education, and technology management. The College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS) includes: 2300 undergraduates on-campus; 400 undergraduates in three collaborative engineering programs at two face-to-face
off-site locations and thirteen distance-education partner sites; plus 325 graduate students in the online MS in Engineering program. The College has approximately 100 faculty and instructional staff members in these Departments:

Chemistry and Engineering Physics
Mathematics
Civil and Environmental Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Computer Science and Software Engineering
General Engineering
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
ABET accredited programs

The College is characterized by an emphasis on undergraduate education and values a strong liberal arts education. The College is committed to excellence in teaching and learning, advising,
research/professional development, outreach, and engagement with community and industrial partners. New programs are being developed in Renewable and Sustainable Energy and in Microsystems and Nanotechnology. The College is home to the UW System Nanotechnology Center for Collaborative Research and Development. The College houses the nationally award winning Women in Engineering, Mathematics and Science Program and Mentor Center and provides support to Minority and International students through the College Multicultural Center and Minority Education Committee.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader and will have a doctoral degree in one of the Colleges disciplines and an academic record of accomplishment in teaching, research/professional
development, and service consistent with an appointment as a tenured professor in one of the Colleges departments. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of effective administrative
leadership and classroom teaching experience in higher education; outstanding organizational and communication skills; a demonstrated record of leadership in team building and strategic planning; a demonstrated commitment to or experience with racially diverse populations; a commitment to enhancing female recruitment and retention;
a willingness to develop external relationships and to provide leadership in fund raising and a commitment to
excellence in teaching and learning, research, outreach, and engagement with community and industrial partners.

The Dean is the chief executive and academic officer of the College and provides academic and administrative leadership for the faculty, staff, and students, represents the College within the University and manages the Colleges financial resources and external relations. The appointment as Dean will be a limited appointment with concurrent ranked faculty status tenure in an acceptable field. The dean reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Provost/Vice-Chancellor. Review of applications will begin March 15, 2010. The preferred start date is September 1, 2010.
