New York City College of Technology, an associate and baccalaureate degree granting institution with an enrollment of over 15,000 students, seeks a Dean for the School of Technology and Design. The Dean has oversight responsibility for the activities of the following academic departments and programs: Advertising Design and Graphic Arts, Architectural Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Systems Technology, Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology, Environmental Control, Entertainment Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology. With several new programs awaiting final approval or in development, every department will have at least one baccalaureate level program. The School has excellent facilities and equipment, as well as a highly skilled faculty, and is increasingly looking to maximize interdisciplinary projects and develop innovative programs.
The Dean of the School of Technology and Design reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and will provide academic leadership to the School. Broad responsibilities include curriculum and instructional design, annual and long-term
academic and fiscal planning, personnel evaluation, enrollment and student success initiatives, development of partnerships and new initiatives, and development of a stimulating teaching/learning environment.
The Dean:
- Has overall responsibility for maintaining the academic quality and currency of the Schools programs.
- Maintains and supports the quality of the faculty.
- Directs the on-going process of program review and assessment as required by CUNY, the Middle States Association, TAC-ABET, and other accrediting agencies.
- Supervises the activities of the department chairs and program coordinators.
- Oversees course offerings and the scheduling of classes for the academic year.
- Manages the Schools budget, planning, and assessment processes.
- Develops and makes recommendations for new curricula and programs.
- Supports activities to strengthen teaching and learning.
- Fosters an environment conducive to research and creative activity by faculty and students.
- Develops relationships with industry, governmental agencies, and other institutions of higher education.
- Promotes successful activity in obtaining grant support.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the President and Provost.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline is required. Appropriate administrative experience and academic credentials that would support a professional appointment are also required. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to
providing for student success with a diverse student population and the ability to manage and direct academic programmatic enhancement. Strong communications skills, as well as excellent interpersonal, analytical, strategic and staff management skills, plus a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience are required for the position.
