Director of the Center for Leadership Development

Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located ninety minutes from the Baltimore/Washington area. Established in 1832, the College has an outstanding academic reputation, and is located on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of approximately 2,600 students.

We are seeking a creative, energetic, experienced individual to serve as Director of the Center for Leadership Development (CLD). The Director will oversee this new institutional initiative, providing leadership for a set of programs and resources designed to enhance the student co-curricular learning experience through a focus on leadership development. The CLS will also include an innovative program offering ongoing leadership development opportunities for Gettysburg College alumni.

The CLD will serve as a central element of Gettysburg s institutional mission. The Director will work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution: student affairs colleagues from many different departments, faculty members, students, alumni, etc. The Director will have a tremendous opportunity to have a major impact on the student learning experience, and on the ongoing alumni experience. Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding skills in developing broadly collaborative initiatives focused on the support of experiential learning opportunities.


Education and Experience: Characteristics of successful candidates include -
An understanding of private higher education, as well as an appreciation for the liberal arts
A clearly articulated philosophy of leadership development
Experience in learning-focused program development
Experience in the development and assessment of learning outcomes
Outstanding interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to work collaboratively.
Demonstrated expertise in leadership development programming and training; including the design, coordination, and evaluation of educationally purposeful activities and leadership development programs.
Understanding of foundational and emerging literature/research on learning theory and leadership development
Knowledge of current leadership development models
General familiarity and facility with technology.
Earned Masters or Doctoral degree in College Student Personnel, Organizational Leadership or a related field; and 4-6 years of full-time professional experience.
