EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FACULTY

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2010

JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the early childhood education program for students seeking licensure in Preschool to Grade 4; serving in various leadership roles within the department; applying technology to curriculum and instruction in the teaching and learning process; maintaining positive collaboration with local public schools; assisting with after school supplemental educational tutoring services in local schools; serving as academic advisor to early childhood education majors; participating in committee activities; supervising students in field experience placements; maintaining involvement in scholarly endeavors and activities; and performing other duties as required and/or assigned. Candidate chosen will be required to travel to and from area schools.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a Doctorate in Education or ABD with scheduled defense date before August 2010; three years of successful teaching experience that includes early childhood students; and experience in mentoring teacher education candidates. Preference will be given to candidates with a Doctorate in Early Childhood Education or related field; experience teaching in higher education; and experience advising early childhood teacher education candidates. Demands of the position require experience with performance-based assessment as applied to early childhood curriculum; an understanding of NAEYC standards as they relate to the early childhood curriculum; evidence of well developed teamwork and communication skills; a commitment to excellence in teaching; and experience with innovative techniques in teaching English Language Learners. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
